With over 20 years of experience within our management team, we are often asked for help with weddings and the most useful item we tend to hand out is a checklist of what you need to arrange and when. So please find this below and we hope that is it of use!
From engagement up to 2 years prior to the wedding:
Draft a guest list
Set a rough budget
Choose a wedding planner (whether this is a supplier or a paper organiser)
View venues (churches, registry offices, wedding reception venues)
Purchase wedding insurance as soon as you book any wedding suppliers or venues
1 to 2 years prior to the wedding:
Book your ceremony venue and wedding reception venue
Decide on who is in your wedding party (parents, bridesmaids, ushers, etc.)
Set up a wedding website to help keep track of all your wedding details
Confirm your wedding ceremony details, such as venue, registrar/celebrant, timings etc.
Research and book your main suppliers, such as photographer, florist, caterers, transport, band/DJ, photobooth etc. (browse all supplier categories here)
Look into local accommodation for your guests
Book your wedding accommodation for the night prior and wedding night
Start looking at decorations and theming
Begin looking at wedding outfits
Send out ‘save the dates’
From 1 year prior to the wedding:
Book the registrar (if needed)
Send out official invitations
Start shopping for wedding outfits
Book your cake, flowers and decorations (if not done prior to now)
Choose your hair stylist and/or make up artist
Start a wedding gift list (if required)
Look into honeymoon ideas
Look into food and drink options for the wedding
6 months prior to the wedding:
Choose and purchase your wedding rings
Finalise wedding outfits and decide on accessories
Book hair and make up trials
Start any ‘do it yourself’ decorations and wedding items
Finalise cake, flowers and decorations with suppliers
Organise stag and hen parties
Finalise food and drink options (pre-orders may be required from guests)
Decide on the ‘order of the day’
Arrange dress fittings and suit alterations if needed
3 months prior to the wedding:
Chase any remaining RSVPs
Have the stag and hen parties
Check dates for finalising information with all suppliers booked
By 1 month prior to the wedding:
Finalise the seating plan
Ensure all food options are with the caterers
Create or order any wedding signage (directions, table plan, order of the day, etc.)
Finalise wedding favours
Create or order wedding stationery (table names/numbers, place cards, menu cards, etc.)
Finalise all details with suppliers
Confirm ceremony details (vows, readings, music, etc.)
Up to 4 weeks prior to the wedding:
Pay all suppliers
Finalise a list of outstanding items required for the day and organise them
Break in your wedding shoes
Finalise the seating plan
Send your final list of photographs wanted to the photographer and venue(s)
Have final alterations to clothing and pick up items
1 week prior to the wedding:
Confirm all accommodation bookings
Give out your wedding party gifts (if not for the wedding day)
Delegate jobs to the ushers and bridesmaids
Do not use any new beauty products from now in case of a reaction
Pack your wedding items
The day before the wedding:
Church rehearsal (if applicable)
Allocate someone to look after the marriage certificate on the day
